Look, I love beautiful girls too. I think everyone should be free to have their knee socks and their sweaty shorts, but I’m over it. I’m over this weird, exhausted girl. I’m over the girl that’s tired and freezing and hungry. I like bossy girls, I always have. I like people filled with life. - Amy Poehler
The point of this blog is to celebrate the sentiment that women can be loud, nerdy, brave, rational, opinionated, kind, open-hearted, clumsy, ridiculous people. It was born out of the frustration that Tumblr tends to have a lot of pretty girls in sheer clothing looking bored. We talk a lot about how much and why we suck. We want to be Summer Finn or Clementine Kruczynski or girls from John Green books - enigmatic, troubled, and beautiful. That’s all well and good.
But rarely do we glamorize the Leslie Knopes. The Hermione Grangers. Rarely do we talk about knowing the answer in class or making the funnier joke. We don’t talk about what we’re good at or our ambitions and the word “nerd” has seem to have once again become taboo. We feel unique, but we’re told we just want to be It Girls.
So that’s what I Like Bossy Girls is for! At least that’s the best way I can describe it. It’s NOT about excluding things. It’s about celebrating and glamorizing the things that don’t seem to get glamorized much anywhere else. It’s about an equal playing field. It will be pretty subjective, I’m not gonna lie. I’m running it alone and as such will only have at my fingertips the things I love, the things the people I follow love, and the things I discover in my own personal internet journeys. I’m going to ask around about submissions though.
Until then, enjoy! It won’t clog your dashes (I’m running three blogs now, yikes!) and I will do my best to not post things I post on my personal blog so you won’t get duplicates. Follow if you’d like! I’m really proud of this blog already, actually. I think it’s going to be a good time.
